THE MOOOOOOOOOOOOOONLee: There. Now we've gotten all the possible "I'll Make a Man Out of You" comments out of the way, haha! I loooove Mulan. I love the music, I love the characters, I love the development, I love Ping. I feel like a lot of people, myself included, can relate to Mulan and her struggles to find a balance between fulfilling her obligations and trying to be true to herself. She's been a long-time inspiration to me, even more so these past few years, and I wanted to pay her homage.
This was worn to ALA 2012 with a friend as Matchmaker Mulan, and a lot of people d'awwed at us, which was weird. I didn't realize until a lot later that a lot of people had mistaken me for Li Shang and thought we were doing a couple cosplay. Oh well! It was really fun anyway.
The armor is made of heat-molded craft foam with countless coats of glue to for the stiffness and glossiness. I plan to do a couple more coats, and to remake or at least cover the arm and shin guards with pleather before the next shoot, for which I'm hoping to gett a Khan for!! So excited!
And after some feedback, I've decided to remake the green fabric parts as well with a color closer to the original.
